March & April 2013 - Finally in our own home!

After bath nap

Cafe 13 before the move

We started house hunting about 6 months ago.  We went back and forth between Evergreen and Golden.  The only con about Evergreen is that it's 17 miles from NREL.  In the end we decided we wanted to be higher in the mountains surrounded by evergreens.  The house is a 1942 cabin that has been completely updated in the historic Wah Keeney neighborhood in Evergreen. We have been enjoying the fresh mountain air and wildlife sightings.

Gifts from the previous owners

First day at our new home

I spent the first week painting - these are the before pictures.

Kids zoning out while I unpack and clean

Mark made a pendant lamp out of an antique ball jar.

Visiting the Easter bunny at Home Depot

Coloring eggs

Found her basket!

Found his basket

IKEA hack!  I painted and distressed an IKEA bookshelf then I had Mark put plumbing pipe on to attach an old barn door to cover the TV.  We are using the TV to watch movies.

Deer in our driveway.  The neighbors have sighted bear, elk, deer, fox, raccoon and mountain lion prints!  We see elk daily in or around our neighborhood.

Our awesome deck!

Log path

2 sheds - Ella uses one as her playhouse, I'm sure Gordon will use the other one someday.  The yard needs a lot of work - we have plans to do that this summer.

The after pictures - we painted the upstairs (color - dolphin fin)!  I'll be painting the ceiling a crisp white to brighten it up and make the grey pop like it does against the base boards.

I love the concrete sinks.  I'll take pictures of the downstairs bedrooms and bathroom after I paint.  The concrete sink in the downstair bathroom is beautiful!

Cool bathroom light fixture

Mark is going to put metal cabling between each metal bar so it's to code and so we can remove the curtains and give it a more sleek and industrial look.

Concrete counters

Details in the counters - stones from Avila Beach, CA

New videos:

Herd of elk at the park near our house.  They crossed the highway then jumped the fence.  So cool to watch!

Driving home to Evergreen

Evergreen lake - about 3 miles from our house

Playing at Evergreen lake

Herd of deer across the street

Ella started taking classes at Creative Bridges art studio in Evergreen.

Some of the art...

Ella will go to art camp in June - 4 hours a day for 5 days - they will go out into nature and find things to create art and spend the day playing and making things.  This month she is going 2 hours a week.

We tried to make a snowman but Gordon kept bulldozing it!

Ella's shed

She loves the glass tiles that were left behind in the shed

Taking a walk down our road

Mark made a barn door coffee table with plumbing pipe legs and the ball jar light fixtures last weekend.

We used the previous light fixture - turned them upside down and attached a vintage ball jar

Having a fire on a cold snowy day.

Still on the painting to do list:
Paint all the ceilings crisp white
Paint the downstairs bathroom
Paint the stairs

Elk in our neighborhood

This poor deer slept under our deck Friday night while a young deer watched over her. She was twitching and breathing heavy, by Saturday afternoon she passed away.

  3. Love Everything you guys are doing to it! Just FYI the stones in the kitchen countertop are from Avila beach in CA. Also there are 3-5 rhubarb plants that pop up every spring in the "front" yard. We are so happy your family is enjoying the house as much as we did!

P.S. There are pics of the house when we bought it on our blog (which we nearly never update). http://nomadic-ponderings.blogspot.com/2008/01/new-addition-to-schramm-fam.html

    1. Thanks Mary! There wasn't a lot to do since you guys made it so beautiful! We will keep posting pictures as we do projects. I'm really looking forward to the yard project which will be long and probably never ending.

We came home on Friday night to a couple of deer sleeping under the deck and they were still there when we woke up. One of them wouldn't even stand up when we were outside so we started to worry. A younger deer was "guarding" the older one who was twitching and breathing heavy. By Saturday afternoon the older deer passed away. Fortunately, Chris is such a nice neighbor that he offered to load it in his truck and dispose of it for us.

Thanks for checking in and for the info!
