We ended our time in Gaithersburg with the Honigfort's almost the same way as it started, a visit to the turtle.  This time nobody ended up in the ER with a turtle bite ; )

A little less than 2 years ago the Honigfort's invited us over for dinner and they took us down the road to see their neighbor's pet turtle.  We brought carrots to feed it and Erik's finger was mistaken for a carrot.  They ended up frantically taking him to the clinic and they thought they'd never hear from us again.  This started a great friendship and Erik's finger just needed a bandaid ; )

Last night at the Honigfort home

We arrived in Golden on May 22nd.  This is the condo that NREL is putting us up in for 2 weeks while we settle into the area and find a permanent rental.   There is also a pool and hot tub we enjoyed last night.  Ella even made a friend at the pool who invited us over to play; ) Traveling out here was quite the adventure.  We all woke up at about 330 am eastern time, mainly because we were so excited, the shuttle didn't pick us up until 5 am.  I had Gordon's nap all planned out so he'd sleep on the plane.  I kept him awake and walking out his energy while we were at the airport and put him in the carrier about 15 minutes before boarding.  He was out within a minute.  We were about to take off when the flight attendant came up to me and told me my baby carrier was not flight approved and I'd have to remove him from the harness (even though I've flown at least 10 times with Ella or Gordon asleep in the carrier).  So of course he woke up when I unclipped the carrier and he was awake until 10 minutes before we landed.  Since he's 13 months, he wanted to be explore everything on the plane.  He was also overtired and very whiny.  Ella did great, she played with her sticker book and looked out the window while shoving nerds and m&m's in her mouth.  We then caught a super shuttle to drive us to rent a car in Golden.  The driver couldn't understand why we were putting car seats in and the other passengers were a bit disgruntled but we made it safely to Golden.  I also had to bend over in the seat to nurse Gordon while he was strapped in to his car seat  in the shuttle, good times.    He woke up surrounded by strangers and couldn't be settled.

It's very strange having 3 TV's in the house when we normally don't have any.

You can just make out downtown Denver in the distance.  I'm enjoying a cup of coffee (decaf ; ) while I stare at the mountains in awe that this is where we live.  We are filled with excitement and our cheeks hurt from smiling!

We looked at several rentals today and found one that we are pretty sure we'll sign a lease on today.  It's right in the heart of downtown Golden so we could walk to everything.  We'll keep you all posted!  So far, we love this town!  The people are so nice and it feels good to be surrounded by smiling faces and dreadlocks ; )  Everyone has been more than helpful and nobody has beeped their horn at us yet (Marylander's will understand this).   I'm sure I'll be posting dozens of pictures of this adorable town and the mountains in the next week.

  2. Mark,

I subscribed to your family blog using the "feed" function that'll flip what you post to a feed file on my PC's favorites bar.

I don't see the blogspot "follow me" app that auto flips all new postings to an email address. Go into the blog's layout section, click on one of the add gadget boxes on the template layout, scroll to the "follow me" widget app and activate it. It should put it into the spot you clicked for the gadget on the layout template. You can move it later by dragging it around to under your profile text or anywhere there's a gadget slot.
